THE ADOPTION OF PĀKEHĀ TECHNOLOGY AND MOVES TOWARDS Pākehā ways of doing things were in many ways the inevitable consequence of colonisation, but the speed of their adoption and the nature of social change was consistent with the desire to maximise the economic benefits that would accrue. Shifts in social mores, the nature of co-operative efforts between groups, the way assets were managed and operated, and even the geographic locations of each enterprise were all in accord with this end.
